Signing Up For A Library Card
Having a library card grants you access to our book collection, DVDs, audiobooks, public computers, magazines, digital collection, cake pans, lawn games, and more! All you need to do is:
1. Bring in a photo ID and proof of address. If your current address is already listed on your photo ID, then just the photo ID is enough. But if not, you may use a bill, bank statement, or checkbook. It must have your name and the right address.
2. Fill out the application (the adult form for 17+ and the juvenile form for those under 17).
3. Provide your signature on the application. This shows agreement that you and/or your child will abide by all rules and regulations of the library.
Visiting The Library
We strive to provide a comfortable, clean, and relatively quiet space for everyone! Browse our collections, use the public patron computers, attend a program, hold meetings in our boardroom (depending on availability). Free Wi-Fi is provided, and there are tables with nearby outlets available on each of the three levels of the library, which are good for bringing your own electronic devices to do homework, research, etc.
Checking Out Materials
Books, audiobooks, and cake pans check out for three weeks. DVDs and learning tablets check out for one week. As long as an item doesn’t have another person waiting to check it out, you may renew any item by calling or visiting the library and letting a clerk know you want to renew. Items do not renew automatically. Late fees are 25 cents per item per day for DVDs, tablets, and NEW books. As a courtesy to you, we try to contact you when an item has gone overdue for over a week.
Library Catalog
If you want to see if we have a specific item on the shelves, you can use our online library catalog (it’s also available on the patron computers)! Just enter the title, author, or a keyword and search! Click on the “where is it?” button to see which section it can be found in. The online catalog is a great way to find whatever you’re looking for because you can quickly see if we have it, where it is, and whether or not it’s checked out. It also has a login feature! Use your library card number to log in (your default password is the city’s zip code) and you can see what items you have checked out, your reading history, renew your items, or request for an item to be held in your name. We’ll grab it from the shelves and hold it for you at the front desk for one week.
Can’t Find What You’re Looking For?
When we are lacking an item that our patrons are searching for, we can borrow it from other libraries in Kansas that are part of the Inter-Library Loan program. To request an item, call us or stop by and ask someone at the front desk. You can usually expect to receive the item within a week of placing your request. The amount of time you can borrow it depends on the library it came from. If you need more time, please request the renewal a few days ahead of the due date so that it doesn’t go overdue, because that library needs time to approve or deny the renewal request. Note: DVD ILLs are restricted to educational use or for a missing season of a tv show that we do have. This is to keep our ILL librarian from becoming overloaded with movie requests. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
