Our Organization
The Arkansas City Literacy Council (ACLC) is a non-profit, volunteer organization that provides literacy and English language tutoring to adults and older youth so they may gain the listening, speaking, and reading skills needed to be successful in life. ACLC trains tutors to work one-on-one with students, using a proven and widely used format to teach adults to read. Tutoring is offered free of charge, and materials such as workbooks and other reading materials are paid for through community donations and fundraising. We are a registered affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a national organization dedicated to improving the nation’s literacy through over 1200 affiliates in all 50 states.
Location and Meetings
The Arkansas City Literacy Council operates out of the Arkansas City Public Library, where tutoring materials are stored and where space is available for tutors and students to meet. Meetings of the Council are generally held once a month at the library.
If you are interested in becoming active with ACLC or know of someone who is in need of tutoring, please call or stop by the Library, e-mail us at literacy@acpl.org, or like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ArkansasCityLiteracyCouncil
