UPDATE 3/23/2020 – As of now, the library will remain closed indefinitely as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. Each week, we will reevaluate this situation and monitor the pandemic status as it changes.
After careful consideration of many factors, Arkansas City Public Library is closing temporarily. On March 21st, we will reevaluate based on the how the pandemic has evolved locally at that time. At the time of this update, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cowley County. Even so, as a public building who serves a large number of those who are most vulnerable to this disease (the elderly and the immune compromised), it is in the community’s best interest that we prepare for the possibility. This is the time when our actions are MOST important in stopping the spread of any virus – before, and not during. ACPL will not charge ANY late fees for the duration of this closure. You may still return your items via the dropbox outside the building or renew your items through the catalog.
Please remember that this choice was made to protect our community and to stop a threat from becoming a reality – we ask that our patrons diligently follow the CDC guidelines in not panicking, practicing good personal hygiene, staying home if you’re sick, and doing your part of social distancing to protect those around us who may not be as likely to recover.
Library resources you can still take advantage of despite the building being closed:
- ebooks and audiobooks – If you have a library card, you can download the free Libby app to access a large collection of digital books and audiobooks from the Sunflower eLibrary. - Kansas eLibrary catalogs – If you are a resident of Kansas, you have access to several online reading services for free! - Your library account – via our new catalog, you can control aspects of your account entirely online. Renewing items, paying fines, updating your information, and even request for items to be reserved for you (however, you will not be able to receive them until the library is open again).
